Every day, the interwebs is filled with an interminable supply of crap and one cool thing. Like a jet-powered bloodhound, this blog seeks out and posts that one thing. On occasion, nothing interesting is added to the internets. In that case, something old is posted.

9gag
9gag is a simple microblog that features humorous, beautiful, or non-sensical images. Can we talk about how I hate starting sentences with numerical digits? It's an affront to grammar. But I didn't want to break tradition here. Monday, February 22, 2010
The One Who Got Away
The One Who Got Away is a photojournalism piece on Photory Magazine (which you can navigate through using the right and left arrows on your keyboard!). It's about the people in your life that have disappeared or faded out, and the re-editing we do of our own personal histories. Light, nostalgic, brilliant. Here is an excerpt:
"Imagine studying abroad in a castle in Italy for three months, and falling in love with one of your friends while you were there. Locking eyes at the bar up the hill, sharing a tent in Verona because the hotels are full, hopping a train and heading south to the coast for a week with no itinerary at all, running around Venice in the rain. Imagine coming back home, and love fading back into friendship. Imagine what a disappointment that would be."
Apparently anyone can submit a captioned photo (very bottom of the page).
Enjoy!

Vans and the Places Where They Are
Vans and the Places Where They Are is an art project by Joe Stevens depicting vans in lonely places in the Western United States. It "documents surviving custom and conversion vans across the West and examines the dialogue which exists between a van’s design aesthetic and that of its surrounding environment." Joe's previous work has been exhibited at the Hammer Museum of Los Angeles and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
It's a lot of pretty vans in pale colors.

This Peanut Looks Like a Duck
This Peanut Looks Like a Duck is a website about things in the shape of a duck. If you spin and squint real hard. Love it.
The splash page is really classy, and once you get in it's really trashy. The huge ads atop, the clutter at the bottom. Still, some nice duck-looking images.

They Shoot Porn Stars, Don't They? [NSFW]
They Shoot Porn Stars, Don't They? is a Not Safe For Work 10-page self-published essay written and photographed by Susannah Breslin. She wrote it for a publication, but it got pulled, and so she self-published. Normally I hate it when stories are split into pages, but with the photos atop I didn't mind so much. Plus, the site design is by Chris Bishop whose crowning achievement is the "Obama Rides a Unicorn" shirt. The first page is... shocking. The whole essay is kind of... interesting. It reminds me of this sex and the law class I once took as an undergrad. Enjoy?
Highlights:
A long time ago, I asked Jim why he makes the movies that he does. He told me that when he was a teenager he had wanted to see what happened to the girl in the horror movies when the camera cut away from the action. What he had wanted was more. Hardcore, at least for a while, took him there....
If “2 Girls 1 Cup” is water cooler talk, what is offensive?...
Among the potentially obscene videos were Powers’ “American Bukkake 11,” in which 83 men ---------------- a woman named Cotton Candy, and Butts’ “Tampa Tushy-Fest,” in which a woman can be seen ---------------- another woman and exclaiming, “Fuck yeah, that’s girl power!”...
"Anybody that comes into this business, for the most part, is a broken toy.”...
“If you want to have sex with Tori Black and don’t have chloroform, this is your next best option.” [Ugh.]...
How far will we go if we are pushed to our limits?

PS: Pg. 5 made me wonder, has punk rock really always been associated with half-naked, bound, and kneeling female figurines? Weird.

Secret Girlfriends Throughout History

Secret Girlfriends Throughout History is a shameless picture/list/article on Buzzfeed.com, where they gathered up pictures of 8 modern-ish mistresses and 2 historical ones.
I had no idea about Claire Danes being a homewrecker. They should have a made a short-lived sitcom about THAT.

Church Store Fail

Church Store Fail is an unintentionally humorous image from the failblog, showing the least appropriate thing to name a church goods store. Or most appropriate. Commenters, you decide. In any case, this image is appropriate for my finds today. Fail-tastic.

[NSFW?] Beautiful Cervix Project
Beautiful Cervix Project is a website that features pictures of different cervices. There is one that shows the same cervix every day for a whole month. Other images include a post-menopausal cervix, an IUD cervix, and a pregnant cervix. If you're not ready to see pictures of such things, wander away now. Don't know quite what to make of the site. Enjoy?

15 Famous People Who Have “Fiveheads”
15 Famous People Who Have “Fiveheads" is a vapid picture-list-article on Buzzfeed that made me actual-laugh-out-loud. Only because I'm self-conscious about my four-and-a-half-head. I digress.
Buzzfeed totally made up the following term: "For those unfamiliar with the term, a 'fivehead' is when a person's forehead is so big, that it's more like a 'five'head."
Very informative article. For example, I learned the following fact: Christina Ricci's face is 90% forehead.

People of Walmart
It was founded by "three friends" after an "inspirational trip." The authors explain the purpose:
"This is purely for entertainment purposes and strictly limited to the outrageously bad / ugly / creepy / crazy shoppers. We don’t need to see pictures of you and your dumb friends dicking around at Walmart. There is no reason to send us pictures of people that are seriously and unfortunately handicapped so don’t be an asshole. We are trying to have some fun here and there is a difference between someone who is mentally challenged and a person who has a fu Manchu and is still rocking MC Hammer pants."
Enjoy!
PS: Why is there a Busted Tees advert in every single viral comedy site? Every single one.

Because everything's funnier. In The Butt.
"Because everything's funnier. In The Butt." is a tumblr blog that shows various public signs defaced with an orange sticker that says, "in the butt." Because everything is funnier... in the butt.Wednesday, August 19, 2009
Stolen Lyrics

Today on the (Musical) Interwebs presents Stolen Lyrics. The site plays out like Post Secret but mainly with the emo postcards that make you say, "Oh, that's sad, but pretty." The big, obvious twist is that Stolen Lyrics utilize lyrics to add a one-line kick to the images. It's cute, it's kitsch, it only has 16 entries at this point in writing, but some pictures will bring a small smile to your face. Plus it's always fun to play the "Which Song Is This?" game. So far, I'm at 7/16.
And now back to your regularly scheduled Today on the Interwebs...

There, I Fixed It
There, I Fixed It is a website about epic jury-rigs kludges. One image after another of things that really should not exist. According to the authors, "We celebrate these iconic images of mankind’s eternal struggle to hammer square pegs into round holes (with duct tape.)" You can contribute pictures of your handiwork to thereifixedit@gmail.com.

Drunk People Yoga Positions
Drunk People Yoga Positions is an entry on Fun Tuna that has side-by-side comparisons of yoga positions and drunk people passed out in remarkably similar positions.I was especially impressed by the Setu Bandha Sarvangasana.
As one commenter points, this rides the line dangerously near the LOL@homeless people. If I argue that from the images I can't ascertain the housing or addiction situation of the subjects... does that automatically make me a bad person?

Creepy Faces
Creepy Faces is a blog about the art of ruining a picture. It's okay. They feature normal pictures ruined by people in the background, with some exceptions. Okay a lot of exceptions. It seems like a good chunk are just pictures of people making faces on purpose. The best ones live up to the orginal intent of the blog. According to them:
"We're here to showcase you, Mr. and Mrs. Normal McNormalface, ruining a seemingly normal picture with a distorted, twisted, bone-chilling face that would make your Mama sad to have ever born you.
We obviously accept user submissions - in fact, we encourage them. But please remember this site is not about being malicious, it's all about being funny. So please keep this in mind when you're sending us your photos. Otherwise, creep on."
Enjoy! Especially the one below, as pointed out by Creepy Faces. Wallflower is appalled that Gilligan -of-the-dreadful-shirt is getting it on with Flee-Godzilla girl. Everyone else is chill.

Ugliest Tatoos

Back on the bad tattoos theme, which I'm rather fond of, there is a whole blog devoted just to that. (Oh Interwebs, what *don't* you offer!). Ugliest Tattoos, The Gallery of Regrets is a blog devoted to mocking awful tattoos. In their own words:
"Some tattoos are great. Girl in martini glass? Sexy! Giant swimming koi? Appreciative of other cultures! A well-executed tree, branches to the sky, roots to the earth? Nice. Very tasteful. Symbolic, yet understated. The winners here were all from the winning page 3.
But some tattoos are . . . less great. In fact, some are brain-explodingly terrible. The butterfly tramp stamps, NASCAR emblems, and Star Trek commemorative plate–style back pieces that walk this earth are an assault on the eyes and an affront to all who encounter them. Thank god you don’t have one of those. Oh wait, you do?
Can I see?"

(From my interest in bad tattoos. Which is similar to my interest in awful plastic surgery.)
